SYCF Small Grants Fund

Demand for grants from the South Yorkshire Community Foundation is extremely high and as such our funding streams can often be spent very swiftly.

To avoid disappointment and undue energies being spent in completing application forms, potential applicants are asked to contact the Grants team before beginning to fill out a grant application.

If you would like to make an application for funding in Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham or Sheffield, please contact the Grants team first on 0114 2424294 on any Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday for the latest position of our funding available.

These grants are intended for small, developing and less well-resourced groups and organisations from across South Yorkshire, where small amounts of funding can make a real difference.

Organisations/groups do not have to be a registered charity and the majority of grants are one-off payments of between £250 and £1,500.

We welcome applications from all community and voluntary groups and organisations operating for the benefit of South Yorkshire communities. Groups must therefore have beneficiaries who live in South Yorkshire and be locally led and run. This includes locally constituted and managed branches of national or large charities.

Which groups or activities will be prioritised for funding?

Higher priority will be given to those applications that can demonstrate how they will address some of the following needs. If your group or activity will not meet these priorities then you can still apply but it is less likely that you will receive funding from us:

How to apply?

If you want to apply for a SYCF Small Grant please make sure that you read our Small Grants Fund overview sheet before applying. You can also contact the Grants Team to discuss your project on 0114 242 4294 Tuesday to Thursday during office hours.

To apply online, click on the link below which asks for your email address. You will be emailed a unique link to your own application form which is Stage 1 of the process. Assistance with how to fill in the application form is available when you access that link and you will be able to save the application if you cannot complete it in one go. Once you have completed Part A and submitted it to us, you will also receive a copy by email for your records.

We will inform you within one month if you have been successful in moving to Stage 2 of our application process, when you will be invited to complete Part B of our standard application form and asked to submit supporting documents.

Part B requests your organisation's bank details and other information to back up what you told us in Part A. Two members of your organisation must also sign Part B to accept the Terms and Conditions if a grant is made.

Application Part B should then be posted to South Yorkshire Community Foundation together with the following documentation:

Decision making:

All applications are assessed against South Yorkshire Community Foundation's criteria and the criteria of the relevant funder(s).. Those meeting eligibility will be invited to complete Part B of the application form. The complete application form is then assessed and then passed to a panel of independent volunteer decision makers that meets approximately every 12 weeks, and their decision is final.

Monitoring:

We have to ensure that funding has been appropriately spent and therefore require monitoring information. A monitoring form will be posted or e-mailed to you with the letter confirming that your application has been successful. It will ask you to report on the difference the grant has made to your group and beneficiaries. This must be returned six weeks after the grant has been spent or the activity has finished.

Your project may also be subject to a monitoring visit and any audit requirements of the programme. You must retain and return with your monitoring copies of all receipts, invoices and all expenditure relating to your grants including any capital items.

South Yorkshire Community Foundation will only consider further applications if a satisfactory monitoring form is returned.

Feel free to contact the Grants team on 0114 242 4294 Tuesday to Thursday during office hours to discuss your application.
