Doncaster Chamber of Commerce - Conisbrough and Denaby Main Festival Group
17th March 2008
The Doncaster Chamber of Commerce awarded a grant that was the final piece in the jigsaw to help Entour/ Conisbrough and Denaby Main Festival Group to secure the final funds needed to restore the pond at Mill Piece behind Conisbrough Castle.
Entour and Conisbrough Festival Group joined forces in 2004 and identified as their first major project the restoration of the contaminated pond. Due to the pollutants in the water the project would require £60,000 to complete.
Although fundraising had been very successful, the group faced a shortfall and feared they would lose their £25,000 from Waste Recycling Environmental Ltd if they could not find additional monies by the 31st December 2007.
The Doncaster Chamber raised funds for the benefit of the South Yorkshire Community Foundation and the Doncaster Communities at their annual Doncaster Chamber Business Awards and allocated a grant of £1,500 to ensure the final funding was secured. Work is hoping to be completed by July 2008.
The completed project will improve the environment for all the community to use and enjoy, remove contaminants from the water, improve local habitats, and hopefully attract more tourism for economic regeneration.
Local school children will be using the pond for curriculum enrichment activities such as pond dipping.
