Rensubrg Sheppards - Chapeltown Community Baths
18th March 2008
Chapeltown Community Baths have been run as a community enterprise since 1996 to prevent closure. It is now a thriving community resource with over 2,000 users a week. 460 children are learning to swim and they have access to a large range of additional activities including mini polo, a diving academy and sub aqua groups.
The whole community benefit from a full 7 day a week programme offering activities for all the family, from water babies to the over 50 swim club, to family swim sessions and 'dip for a quid'.
Rensburg Sheppards, with a grant from their charitable fund at the Community Foundation have helped the baths buy an essential Poolvac to keep the pool clean and prevent risk of closure from the Environment Agency. The pool is now in excellent condition and attracting more users and clubs, including sub aqua groups.
The extra business at the baths is helping to produce increased income and help towards its long term sustainability.
Duncan Walker, Manager of Chapeltown Community Baths said;
"We are extremely grateful for the support of Rensburg Sheppards, who helped us to purchase the Poolvac. It has helped improve our water quality, keep all our swimmers happy and attract new users, adding to our annual income."
Tom Street from Rensburg met some of the over 50 club at the poolside while touring the facilities, all using the baths to keep fit, active and healthy.
While visiting the baths Tom said;
" It is fantastic to help support such an essential local facility, as so many local baths have already closed their doors. It is important that children learn to swim and have regular exercise and this is a great facility that is used by all the family."
