Not just a grant maker...

The South Yorkshire Community Foundation aims to be at the forefront of innovative charitable giving in our area for years to come, and be more than just a grant maker.

Targeted grant making tackling local issues…

We aim to ensure that every grant we make is having a real difference to the local community, from homeless support groups tackling poverty and disadvantage to drop-in centres tackling substance misuse.  Download our Full list of Grants for 2007/8 and 2008/9.

Innovation in grant delivery…

Through working in close partnership with important local organisations we can give even more local projects the chance to get hold of vital funding.  We worked with Sheffield United FC on a groundbreaking campaign through which 79% of the groups funded were receiving their first ever grant.

"The knowledge that SYCF has of the voluntary sector combined with the extended audience that we could provide meant that a great deal of projects managed to get some much needed help."

Simon Argall, Operations Director, Sheffield United FC

Connecting people who care to causes that matter…

Encouraging local philanthropy is central to our work and has been given a massive boost by the Grassroots Grants Endowment Challenge.  For every pound donated we are able to add another pound from Government funding to create a pot of more than £3.5 million for South Yorkshire.

"UK Steel Enterprise is committed to maintaining its community initiatives for the long term and an Endowment Fund with the South Yorkshire Community Foundation has been a perfect match for our objectives.  Our relationship with SYCF is extremely valuable to support and energise our strong commitment to change the lives of local people."

Keith Williams, Regional Manager, UK Steel Enterprise Ltd.

Re-invigorating community assets…

We use our expertise to unlock and enhance dormant, inactive and ineffective charitable trusts so that they meet real and current needs within neighbourhoods and communities in South Yorkshire.

We work with the Boost initiative to offer a flexible and cost effective way of managing trusts on behalf of its trustees, removing the burden of day to day administration and maximising the impact on local communities. Visit the Trust Transfer page to find out more.

Realising donors' charitable ambitions…

We work with lawyers and accountancy firms whose clients are interested in charitable giving.  SYCF can assist these professional advisors on how to help their clients think about what they want to change in the community and how to go about doing it.

"SYCF's extensive local knowledge can connect a donor to many less well known groups that carry out vital work to tackle social issues at a local level. Providing solutions for our clients and helping them to achieve their philanthropic goals can be a very rewarding experience and SYCF are a safe pair of hands to help clients achieve their objectives for charitable giving."

David Coldrick, Managing Partner, Wrigleys Solicitors

Immediate response for desperate communities…

While we strive to be proactive with our charitable services, our ability to provide an immediate response was tested when the devastating floods of 2007 hit South Yorkshire.

We raised and distributed £1.67 million to flood victims, and won three national awards in recognition of our work.
