WITH credit-crunch fever threatening to take hold, Sheffield United has brewed up the perfect tonic, with its first ever 'Community Cash Giveaway' in association with the South Yorkshire Community Foundation (SYCF).

Through the Grassroots Grants programme, SYCF has funding available for volunteer led community groups and projects in Sheffield before the end of March 09, and a bumper pot of £10,000 has been made available exclusively to the Blades' supporters.

Grassroots Grants aims to provide much needed assistance to the region's unsung heroes, with grants of between £250 and £700 available to those who work to help local communities.

Pauline Grice, chief executive of SYCF, said:  "We are absolutely delighted to have teamed up with the Blades for this fantastic cash giveaway.

"There are so many groups in this area that perform miracles every day on shoestring budgets.  We hope that this cash will come as great help to grassroots projects that are so vital to the local community."
