THE DEADLINE FOR THE STAR COMMUNITY CASH GIVEAWAY HAS PASSED
However community groups in Sheffield can still apply for a grant from our other funding streams. Find out how your community group can benefit from a boost from the South Yorkshire Community Foundation.
- The DEADLINE for the Star Community Cash Giveaway has been extended to Friday, March 6, giving great groups in Sheffield, Rotherham and Barnsley a second chance to get their hands on a valuable cash grant.
- Also, in response to calls from local funders, the Government has increased the average annual turnover cap to £30,000, meaning that local community groups with an annual turnover of up to that amount are now eligible. The previous cap had been set at £20,000 pa.
WITH credit-crunch fever threatening to take hold, the Star has brewed up the perfect tonic, with its first ever 'Community Cash Giveaway' in association with the South Yorkshire Community Foundation (SYCF).
Through the Grassroots Grants programme, SYCF has more than £450,000 available for volunteer led community groups and projects in Barnsley, Rotherham and Sheffield before the end of March 09, and a bumper pot of £50,000 has been made available exclusively to the Star's readers.
Grassroots Grants aims to provide much needed assistance to the region's unsung heroes, with grants of between £250 and £700 available to those who work to help local communities.
Pauline Grice, chief executive of SYCF, said: "We are absolutely delighted to have teamed up with the Star for this fantastic cash giveaway.
"There are so many groups in this area that perform miracles every day on shoestring budgets. We hope that this cash will come as great help to grassroots projects that are so vital to the local community."
To apply for a slice of cash from 'The Star Community Cash Giveaway', simply download and fill in the application form by following the link below. Applicants must also read through the eligibility criteria sheet before completing the application form.

Applying groups must have an annual turnover of no more than £30,000, be volunteer led and be addressing a community need. The full set of eligibility criteria is available by following the link above.
Support is available by calling SYCF on 0114 2424857, or a SYCF staff member will be available at Voluntary Action Sheffield between 2pm and 5pm on Thursday, February 12, and again a week later on Thursday, February 19 between 2pm and 5pm.
Forms must be returned with one voucher taken from the Star, with vouchers to be printed in the Star over the next two weeks. Applications must be have been received by midday on March 6 at the SYCF office, Voluntary Action Sheffield or the Star reception.
Successful applicants will be announced in the Sheffield Star on a date to be decided.
