Figures from the Mental Health Foundation reveal that only 27% of people who died by suicide between 2005 and 2015 had been in contact with mental health services in the year before they died.
When Linda and David Hurst lost their daughter Molly in 2017 to suicide, through their grief they realised that they needed to take action and ensure more help is available for young people so they can get the support they need.
The Hurst’s set up the fund in memory of Molly in conjunction with South Yorkshire’s Community Foundation.
Linda Hurst said: “With everyone’s help we can make a difference, we can ensure the right level of intervention is there for those who are struggling like Molly was. If we can prevent anyone else from experiencing a loss like ours, we will have achieved our purpose.”
Molly’s Fund has so far raised enough to begin distributing funding to much needed support organisations and is currently open to applications until the 1st May 2019.
