Ruth Willis is currently the Chief Executive of South Yorkshire’s Community Foundation (SYCF). Ruth is an experienced senior leader and manager in the voluntary, community and social enterprise sector and in local government. She studied at Manchester and Middlesex Polytechnics and Lancaster University. Throughout her career as a consultant, employee and interim manager she has worked across the country in a variety of roles. Ruth has also coached and mentored a number of people across the private and public sectors. Ruth is a member of the Institute of Housing and a Fellow of the RSA.
Martin has lived in the South Yorkshire for twenty years. He is currently a freelance consultant and also works as a Commercial Director in the charity sector. Martin volunteers as a Trustee with both Sheffield Museums and Age UK Rotherham. He graduated from the University of Leeds in 1996 with a B.A. (Hons) in History and an M.A. in International Studies. Martin has previously had a twenty-five-year career holding Head Office, regional and local leadership roles for several leading retailers including John Lewis, Waitrose and Debenhams. Martin is co-Chair of Sheffield Business Together, an organisation that encourages collaborative and strategic CSR activity across the city.
Tony’s executive career was with British Steel where he undertook various executive roles, culminating in becoming Group Chief Executive of British Steel’s successor company, Corus plc., in 2001. Since leaving Corus in 2003, he has undertaken a number of non-executive roles, including as Chairman of Sheffield Forgemasters Ltd. Other NED roles have included health, higher education, local regeneration/job creation and the voluntary sector. Tony is currently Chair of the Council of Sheffield University. He is also independent Chair of Sheffield’s Health and Care Partnership Board and a trustee and Chair of South Yorkshire Chaplaincy and Listening Service. He was appointed a Deputy Lieutenant for South Yorkshire in 2007 and awarded an OBE in 2013 for services to business, health and the voluntary sector in Sheffield. He was Master Cutler in 2013/14
Nick worked for the Fast Moving Consumer Goods Company Unilever for over 30 years predominately in HR. During this time he was HR Director of Unilever’s R&D Centre near Bedford, HR Director of Lever Faberge UK before taking on a number of Global HR Vice President roles with responsibility for Finance, IT, R&D, and Homecare Brand Development. He retired from Unilever in 2015, at which time he was HR VP for Unilever’s Food Service Division – a European global business based in Rotterdam. Since retiring he has undertaken a small number of 3rd Sector Board roles and is currently a Trustee of South Yorkshire Community Foundation, the Chair of Rotherham & District Citizens Advice Bureau and a Consultant for Cranfield Trust.
