SYCF chief executive appointed Deputy Lieutenant for South Yorkshire
We are really excited that our chief executive, Martin Singer, has been appointed by His Majesty The King’s Lord Lieutenant of South Yorkshire, Dame Hilary Chapman DBE RN, to be a Deputy Lieutenant.
As a Deputy Lieutenant (DL), Martin will support the Lord Lieutenant – the Monarch’s personal representative in South Yorkshire – and the Lieutenancy with ceremonial and civic duties.
Key responsibilities include representing the crown at local events, assisting with community and voluntary activities, community engagement and duties relating to honours and awards.
Martin joined South Yorkshire's Community Foundation in 2025 overseeing strategic growth and daily operations and has more than 25 years’ leadership experience across the private and voluntary sectors.
Passionate about strengthening communities and growing regional philanthropy, Martin has an active commitment to community development and governance, serving multiple charities from across South Yorkshire as a Trustee and Director, alongside his executive career.
I am truly humbled and delighted to be appointed to the position of Deputy Lieutenant and I am grateful for the opportunity to support the Lord Lieutenant in her duties across South Yorkshire.

He joined SYCF in March 2025 and brings over 25 years’ leadership experience across the private and voluntary sectors. Martin is passionate about strengthening communities through philanthropy and partnership.
Alongside his executive career, Martin has maintained an active commitment to community development and governance, serving multiple charities from across South Yorkshire as a Trustee and Director.
