Green Social Prescribing 2024/25

Introduction

The South Yorkshire Green Social Prescribing Grants Programme is intended to support community groups, social enterprises and charitable organisations across the region where small amounts of funding can make a real difference.

The key aim of the programme is to tackle and prevent mental ill-health, and funding will be available to groups based in South Yorkshire who can offer 'green' and 'blue' activities to people with a variety of identified mental health needs.  This will range from those with low level emotional and psychological needs, for example loneliness, worry and low mood, to people with mild to moderate diagnosed mental health need, such as mild depression and anxiety, to people with severe and enduring mental health conditions, who may need support in their recovery and to prevent relapse.

Please read the Guidance Notes below before applying so you can see the programme aims in full and so you can complete the application efficiently.

How much can I apply for?

Groups can apply for up to £7,500. Funding is available for approximately 20 groups.

Because of the nature of this programme, we will need to see clear costs in your budget for staffing and capacity to return monthly monitoring spreadsheets and to attend a series of workshops over the next few months.

Groups who have previously received funding under this programme are welcome to apply again, as long as requested grant reports have been received successfully.

If you are a returning applicant, please complete our Extension Fund application form (linked below)

When can I apply?

Applications to this fund are now closed.

Decisions will be made by panel in mid-June, with monies released in early July.

Projects should complete in January 2025.

What can I spend the grants on?

All funded projects will need to demonstrate that they connect people with the outdoors. This might include connecting people with green or blue space in some of the following ways:

  • Horticulture
  • Conservation
  • Physical activity (moving more)
  • Wilderness focussed
  • Integrating alternative therapies
  • Craft focussed
  • Integrating talking therapies
  • Nature appreciation
  • Care farming

We will fund existing activities that can support our programme objectives and need additional funding to expand, develop or adapt. We will also fund new activities that help to increase the breadth and diversity of provision.

All groups that we fund must be prepared to receive referrals from their local social prescribing team. If a connection is not already established, we will support you to make one.

Supporting documents required:

  • A governing document (e.g. a constitution or memorandum of association),
  • List of board or management committee members of at least three unrelated people,
  • Have a bank account in the name of the group requiring at least two unrelated signatories.
