Activate Rawmarsh

Activate Rawmarsh was set up in 2012 to provide support and activities to bring out the skills, employability and confidence in local people.

The centre provides support ranging from affordable child care to enable people to find work more easily, to employment skills training, C.V. writing and help with job searches.

Recent funding of £1,000 from The Bloomer Family Rotherham Fund & the Liz & Terry Bramall Foundation Philanthropy Catalyst Fund has helped to fund a new, comprehensive programme of support for getting local people into employment.

The programme aims to recruit and train participants of all ages to volunteer at the centre whilst providing key training for finding paid work and gaining work experience as volunteers.

We have been working hard to ensure that all of our beneficiaries have benefitted from the funding from SYCF. We are doing a couple of days of one to one job support each week. We also have a careers adviser that comes in on a Friday morning.

We are running free short courses each month like Paediatric First Aid, Fire Safety and next we have Food Safety.

We are trying to put on courses that are job-related that look good on C.V.s and are what employers are looking for.

We are also getting people into voluntary work here and we have a lot of young people, aged 15 and up that aren’t at school, which can be difficult to work with.

When she first came in she was very closed off.

Then gradually as I’ve worked with her, she’s opened up and you can see her developing and that we are pushing her in the right direction.

The project is already supporting between 30 to 40 people and it is estimated that the number will have doubled to 80 before the project ends.
