Spotlight for SYCF in new NHS report

A programme delivered by South Yorkshire’s Community Foundation (SYCF) designed to place communities at the heart of neighbourhood health and wellbeing has been featured in a new  report.

SYCF has been profiled in the document by UK Community Foundations (UKCF) and PlaceMatters, Preventative Power: Community Foundations Partnering With Health.

It spotlights our partnership programme with NHS South Yorkshire Integrated Care Board (ICB) which supported the health and wellbeing of communities affected by the COVID-19 pandemic across South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw.

Since launching in April 2022, the programme has benefited 4,960 people by funding voluntary organisations to deliver projects that addressed health inequalities and supported priority NHS outcomes, such as reducing emergency admissions and improving engagement with deprived and marginalised communities.

Key outcomes

  • Improved physical and mental wellbeing

  • Fewer hospital visits

  • Enhanced community support networks

  • Improved transitions from hospital to home

  • More support for caregivers

  • Reduced stigma around mental health

Martin Singer, CEO of SYCF, said:

The Government’s 10-year health plan and new Neighbourhood Health Service has been billed as a once in a generation opportunity to re-think the way in which we approach health and wellbeing.

That’s why we're proud to have contributed to the new UKCF and PlaceMatters report which shows the tremendous impact the NHS and community foundations can have when they work together with communities.

The success of our partnership project with the South Yorkshire ICB highlights SYCF’s commitment to improving health outcomes and reducing health inequalities across the region.

Place-based investment has been proven to improve health and wellbeing in communities, with community foundations like ours ensuring people and grassroots charities receive the services and resources they need – when and where it is needed most.
