Using Cultural Intelligence to create fairer recruitment

Businesses across South Yorkshire are being invited to be part of a new pilot project designed to make recruitment more inclusive and accessible.

The initiative is part of the Yorkshire Policy Innovation Partnership (YPIP) - a collaboration between university academics and policymakers across Yorkshire and the Humber.

This pilot project will run a series of interactive workshops bringing together local employers and members of Roshni - a South Asian Women’s Resource Centre in Sheffield.

Sessions will explore how Cultural Intelligence, which is the ability to understand and work effectively with people from different cultural backgrounds, can help organisations build fairer, more welcoming recruitment practices.

Participants will:

  • Explore how identity and culture shape experiences of work and hiring.
  • Recognise how unconscious bias, stereotypes and misunderstandings affect recruitment.
  • Share perspectives and learn from others.
  • Develop practical actions to create more inclusive hiring processes.

Founded in 1992, Roshni, which means light, provides a safe, women-only space for marginalised South Asian women in Sheffield. Its mission is to see women thrive through empowerment and opportunity, offering tailored services that support wellbeing and economic independence.
