Banner Cross High Street project signed, sealed and delivered!

A mini-transformation project to boost business on a Sheffield high street has been completed with support from South Yorkshire’s Community Foundation (SYCF).

As part of our continued commitment to making a positive difference in local communities, SYCF was proud to be involved in the Banner Cross regeneration project.

Three new benches have been installed and a total of 21 trees planted as part of a revitalisation of Banner Cross, in the Ecclesall area, funded through Sheffield Council’s Economic Recovery Fund (ERF).

A group of adults, male and female, sat on a street bench smiling

ERF money has also been used for new street banners, bin wraps, and Christmas shopfront displays, including trees and lights.

Jess O’Neill, grants and partnerships manager at South Yorkshire Community Foundation, played a key role in bringing the project together. She said:

We are proud to have worked in partnership to help deliver this fantastic project which is part of a broader push for post-Covid high street regeneration.

It’s about reminding residents what they’ve got on their doorstep – shop local, visit local, eat local. That’s what it’s all been about.

The improvements have not only enhanced the streetscape, but they will contribute to boosting local trade and helping restore the area’s identity.

It was brilliant to work alongside the team of local champions and organisations who helped turn this vision into a reality especially Nasar Raoof, Manager at the Banner Cross Post Office, Barbara Masters, councillor for Ecclesall, and Ian Woodward, Chair of the Banner Cross Neighbourhood Group.

SYCF is the region’s largest local grant giving charity and last year awarded more than £1.7m to more than 400 community groups and organisations. Since 1986, the Community Foundation has given out almost £40m in grassroots grants.

We were recently awarded our sixth Quality Accreditation in recognition of the charity’s continued commitment to excellence, accountability and impact.
